"We Watched the First Sunrise of the Year" (初日の出を見た Hatsuhinode o Mita?) is the tenth episode of Non Non Biyori.
Summary[]
After sleeping through the New Year, Renge joins Kazuho, Hikage and Kaede as they hike up a mountain to watch the first sunrise of the year. Along the way, Kaede recalls five years ago when she was first asked to look after the one-year-old Renge, initially finding her to be quite a handful but soon taking a liking to her. They eventually manage to reach the top of the mountain and watch the sun as it rises.

- The observation deck from which Renge and Kaede see the sunrise is modeled on a deck located halfway up Mount Saijo, Nagano Prefecture. (Google Map, Street View, 360-degree view, 360-degree view)
- Not only is there a reference to Hikage and Renge's never-seen parents who are "working in the fields" again, but Hikage says that Kazuho is sleeping over near to her college, which is why Candy-Store gets invited to look after Renge.
